trusting your dreams 2

Vijali in her own words….a carving in stone of a whole that opened into her vision…..

"During my retreat time on Boney Mountain, I had a vivid dream one night that steered the course of my life back into the world. In this dream I saw myself carving giant sculptures out of living rock creating new sacred sites in countries I had never visited before. The people in these communities spoke languages I had never heard. At the end of my stay in each country, we created a ceremony of transformation with music, dance and ritual, for our lives, for their community, for the world. I went from country to country around the globe to create a giant circle of peace. The conviction of my dream was that within this circle, this parallel around the world where there was so much upheaval and bloodshed—in the Middle East, Russia, and China—there was also another pattern, one that was potentially a circle of peace

Two years passed from the time of the dream. We may have a vision or dream, but we usually don’t wake up the next morning and pack our bags. Where were all of these countries, I recognized a few in my dream, how do I travel, how do I connect with these people?—the months passed as I lived with these questions about how to implement the dream. On day in 1986 I was absentmindedly spinning a world globe that I kept in the corner of my trailer. I put my finger on the 35th degree parallel where I lived and whirled the world. Twelve sites leapt out at me: the Santa Monica Mountains where I live in California; the Seneca Reservation in upstate New York were Yehwhenode lived; Spain; Italy; Greece; Israel; Palestine; India; Tibet; Siberia; and Japan. At that instant I realized that this circle of countries formed the giant wheel of my dream. I knew immediately what I needed to do, and the World Wheel was born."

World Wheel Earth Mandala

World Wheel (Earth Mandala) is an artistic forum for global understanding consisting of twelve monumental stone sculptures and ceremony performance events circling the globe on the 34th latitudinal parallel. These sculptures are created by Vijali Hamilton, founding director of the World Wheel and the performances are a collaboration with Vijali and each host community. The World Wheel focuses on spiritual ecological issues activating an awareness of the interrelatedness of all life. Through active participation with local artists, performers and community, World Wheel addresses the people’s deepest personal and social concerns, working creatively with them to resolve cultural conflicts. World Wheel provides a transformative experience for the community.

World Wheel, Earth Mandala, Vijali Hamilton, healing with art, community art projects, community building through the arts The motivation for the World Wheel came from an experience in the mid 70’s when my perception of ourselves and the world shifted, and the Unity of life stood revealed. The next few years were a search for a way to live within this web of life that connects all life. Specific ideas for the World Wheel came to me in a dream; I saw myself carving sculptures out of the living rock and involving people from many culture in a process of ritual in a giant circle around the world. The circle itself represents Unity in the sense that each spoke of the wheel has a quality that is unique, distinct from every other spoke of the wheel and yet it is from these differences that harmony arises, from these differences that the whole is created.

I ask each person I meet, three questions:

1. What is our essence?
2. What is our sickness, our imbalance… personally, communally and globally?
3. What can heal this sickness, what can bring us into balance?

Their response from these questions form the ritual performance. Each earth sculpture serves as the performance space and is left as a gift and permanent installation to be used by the community, continuing to connect them to the concept of Unity of the World Wheel.

I was a pilgrim who made offerings and gave voice and form to the spirit of the earth and the people I met along the way. I kept expanding the borders of what sculpture was, what art was, integrating it more and more into life itself – the people around me; their problems their hopes, their dreams of the future. I saw that at the root of these problems is the misunderstanding of ourselves as separate, isolated beings needing to exploit the earth and each other for our gain. This dualistic way of thinking is the direct cause of our ecological and social problems which is rapidly leading us toward global disaster.

The first World Wheel took seven years beginning in Malibu, California and continued on to the Seneca Reservation, New York – Alicante on the Mediterranean Sea of Spain – the Umbrian Forest of Italy – the island of Tinos in Greece – the desert of Egypt – the banks of the Dead Sea in Israel and Palestine – a tiny village in West Bengal, India – a cave in Shoto Terdrom, Tibet – a national park in Kunming, Western China – on the banks of Lake Baikal, Siberia. In October of 1993 the culmination of this journey was in Japan at the ancient Shinto shrine of Tenkawa.

The project again circles the planet, now creating Wisdom Centers in twelve new countries to preserve as well as develop knowledge for the healing and survival of our planet. These Centers create a crucible for the cross-cultural emergence of wisdom needed for our future. The second World Wheel is dedicated to the children of the world.

Trust and art and healing

Vijali beginning her world wheel in the first ceremony in Malibu

http://www.vijali.net/mandala1.html

Art and healing is often not what our culture supports. It is new, often revolutionary, and many time our family members don't fully understand why we are dancing as bears, picking up roadkill and going into the hospital with paints and feathers……so

Being a healing artist requires trust. Trust that the path of art and healing is real, powerful, and that you are HER.

When you have a spiritual experience, a shift, a visionary experience the first requirement is trust in the experience as real, powerful and you.

This is not so easy, with the ordinary  world being formed in three dimensional space and the culture we live in not seeing spirits.

When you pray, you ask for what you want, or what is wanted for you comes to you in the prayer. Spirit guides spirit animals ancestors teachers speak to you when you make the consciousness shift and go into sacred ceremonial space, wherever however it is.

In art and healing many artist healers have had a vision, of themselves and what they are to do. Then….the issue is trust.

First trust the vision… is it real, where did it come from, whose voice? Etc.

Then trust the actions necessary to implement the life of the vision…

Trust is helped by seeing what happens as you begin to act, evaluating how your life and the lives of others around you are changing, is it compassion????

Ummmm

I often use Vijali as an example, because she went on a vision quest sort of, left everything and lived as a hermit, had a vision and then…… acted big time with the world wheel. But …. She was not a mother, with children, made it easier I think, but all else was.

In these times, it may be lifesaving for yourself, others, community and earth to trust these visions and may be necessary to change your life big time……

Diane Tusek does it again – thinking out of the box

August 29, 2009

Thinking out of the box to change the world…I received this email yesterday from Diane Tusek, one of the most important figures in guided imagery, use and research. she is wonderful…..thank you Diane….

Hi Michael.

I have come up with another way of delivering Guided Imagery to patients.  I welcome your thoughts and feedback.

A new and effective way to deliver Guided Imagery to patients at NO COST to hospitals

We have had great feedback and success so far.  I welcome your thoughts.

Distributing Guided Imagery CDs has now become a bit of a challenge in health care due to budget restraints.

I have just come out with a new product which I believe will not only enhance the quality of patient care will be NO COST to hospitals.

I have just released eight (8) new products on a venture called Playaway.

·         Playaway is a preloaded digital mini mp3 player the size of a credit card.  My Guided Imagery content is preloaded.  There are no CD’s, or players for the patients to purchase or “remember” to bring in.

·         Guided Meditation for Surgery – Procedures would be a billable (non-reimbursable item for patients to purchase either in the physician office or at pre-admission testing centers).

As you know, I have always been one to “think out of the box".  Patient-centered care has always been my passion and direction in my nursing career.

Guided Imagery on Playaway is an excellent venue for helping our patients and showing them that we truly about their needs as a “whole person”.

I am asking for your input, feedback and thoughts.  Can we set up a time next week to discuss further

For more information on Playaway:   www.playaway.com   You can sample all products on my web site at www.guidedimageryinc.com

Patient-centered approach, as you know, has been my focus in my nursing career.  I have never lowered my expectations for excellence, hard work and devotion to patient care.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Warm wishes,

Guided Imagery – stress management, relaxation, healing, wellness through guided imagery and visualization

August 29, 2009

the guided imagery research on this page is vital for anyone in health care, its implications are beyond staggering, can you imagine, lower pain and 2 day less hospital stay????
how can we not do this with every patient

12. Tusek, Cwynar, Cosgrove: The Journal of Cardiovascular Management. March/April 1999. The Guided Imagery Research Study for or Heart Procedures at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation (The Cleveland Clinic Guided Imagery Program for Heart Surgery) with patients undergoing heart surgery (cardiac surgery). Patients that listened to the Guided Imagery CDs had a significant decrease in pain, stress and anxiety. Guided Imagery for Heart Procedures revealed that cardiac surgery patients left the hospital two days sooner than the patients that did not listen to the Guided Imagery CDs.

Ancestors will act

My two sons took my wife’s ashes to the lake that she played on as a child, and put them in the lake this week. When my wife, their mother, died of breast cancer in 1993, she asked to have most of her ashes put in Bolinas, where we lived, where her children were born, and some put in the lake in which she played as a little girl, in the Adirondacks in New York.  Do to a variety of things that happened around my wife’s death with her brother and sister ,I did not go back East and this did not happen…. until this week.

Then.. my sons, their wives and girlfriends and my grand daughter had weddings in the East, that were near the lake, and they decided to put the ashes in the lake and visit their cousins for the first time since my wife’s death. My grand daughter met her second cousins for the first time, they played and swam in the beautiful lake, like her grandmother had as a little girl.

My older son told his daughter that this was the place his mother, her grandmother fell off the railing and broke her arm when she was seven, this was the place he played as a child…..

And my son told me, if we had taken the ashes to the lake in 1993, in the midst of the family problems, maybe we would not have gone back there again. Maybe…my grand daughter would never have met and played with her little cousins, maybe the family would not have been together again.

My wife did this, she brought her family together after 16 years like she had help keep them together before she died.  She waited until her grand daughter was born, waited and then. Did it at exactly the right time, her ashes did it.. for everyone..

Trust the process, slow, but real. ancestors will act..
